As Ed has already said, Jack is really starting to enjoy nursery. He loves the house and goes in and out and in and out of the door pretty much constantly, he tries the same in the house with the gate between the kitchen and the livingroom but we have to stop him otherwise he will be swining off it all day!

Also as mentioned before, Jack had his nursery party on Tuesday. He gave his nursery teachers a big tin of Quality Street to say thank you for taking such good care of him, and he had a wonderful time. They had Christmas dinner, played pass the parcel (until one of the babies refused to let go), sang Christmas songs and of course Jack got to go in, and out, and in, and out of his favorite door!

When we went to pick him up, we took him down to see Santa again!

Surely I have visited you enough to get on your good list now?

And, of course, we had a hand made card (by Jack) from nursery - ok so his nursery worker probably did most of it but I love it and I am sure Jack did most of it!

Jack's work of art

Seeing how much fun he has, how much he has came along since he started going and how many cuddles he gets from the girls in the nursery has certainly put my mind at rest as to whether I am doing the right thing or not. He loves it, we are sort of happy with the arrangements we have in place and I am earning money. Can't really ask for any more at the moment.

He is mental, he was on my bed this morning, rolling around laughing, having fun. Opening every door/cupboard/drawer that exists. If you are going to get him a present and have yet to indulge, please buy him a door!

He has also ramped up his walking and now walks without realising it, between things. I would say he is still more crawling than walking but he is quickly redressing the balance.

He also is now a big chancer. You tell him "no", he ignores it laughs and does it more. Its all natural and part of learning but it drives you mad when you know he is testing you :-)

Rose and I were on our Christmas night out last night so Jack stayed with Grandad and Grandma. I will let them put a comment in about what happened but suffice to say he's hard work :-)

Jack was at Nursery this week for his usual times and now he is a changed baby. He can't wait to get in and walks/crawls in as you are trying to take his jacket off. When you come in to pick him up he doesn't come over, he just keeps on playing. When I picked him up on Tuesday, he started moaning cause he didn't want to leave. The lady said he played with a wee toy door for an hour! He doesn't normally go in on Tuesdays but it was his Christmas party so he went in for a couple of hours for Christmas dinner, bouncy castle and he got to meet Santa (again!)

He is real good fun just now and his personality is really developing. He has wee huffs when he doesn't want to do stuff (which we just ignore until he gets fed up and comes back to play, too many programmes on TV with advice!). He can almost talk, I swear he said "hello Dada" this morning and he can almost walk.

Three days of intense training and he will be walking and talking on Christmas Day - "More Magners Dad? I was just going to the kitchen for a milky bar, can I get you something while I am up" - dream on :-)

Apologies again for the lack of activity but we will sort ourselves out over the Christmas period, promise! Here is this weeks information:

Your toddlers increasing control over his hands means that your hands may be even more full than usual. He'll poke and prod everything that interests him, which probably means anything within reach. Your toddler may scribble with a crayon, grab a spoonful of jam, or rub his fingers in ketchup just to see what happens. Though you may be all too familiar with the outcome -- more cleaning up for you -- remember that your child learns something about the consequences of his actions from every one of his messy experiments

Well, Friday Jack and I went to Ikea for a new rug, then to Big W for a Santa Suit for Ed, down to Ed's work to drop off some lunch, back home for a play for an hour, back down to Ed's work to pick him up and drop me off at the hairdressers.

Saturday, Jack spent most of the morning with Ed, until Ed dropped him down at his parents as he had to go to the club early for some reason, and Jack spent the afternoon playing with Grandma, Great Granny, Great Auntie Francis and Peter.

And today, Jack kindly woke me up at 5.30am (Ed was at his Santa night last night and stayed the night at his parents) in a corker of a bad mood, so I had to endure 2 hours of whining before I put him down for his morning nap at 7.30am. He woke up at 9.00am, in a much better mood so we got dressed and headed down to Ocean Terminal to pick up Ed's Christmas Present.

We got there at about 10.00am, and Ed phoned us just as we arrived to tell me he had just woken up. Which was nice of him, and not at all irritating and most certainly didn't make me want to punch him for actually getting a break and a lie in once again.

Jack and I shopped, went and collected Ed and then came home where Jack spent a couple of hours this afternoon playing with Uncle Chris and Auntie Suz. He seem's to have taken quite a shine to Suz, he brushed her hair and sat in his high chair eating his lunch constantly giggling and smiling at her!

He even did some walking between Ed and Chris, and was thoroughly pleased with himself.

He then went down for an afternoon nap while Ed and I pottered about, and once he woke up he did more walking between Ed and I, and not just little steps either!

He is now in bed, talking to himself trying really hard not to go to sleep.

OK, its been a few days since Jack got some airtime so here is my best attempt to fill the gaps:

Tuesday

Jack and Rose went to Jo Jingles. There was lots of playing and Christmas Carols. Jack apparently had a great time and they were playing under a big parachute thing as well! He then spent the afternoon with Grandma and Grandad. Thank you.

Wednesday

Jack spent the day at Nursery. When we left him he just wandered off playing with toys and when we went to pick him up, I peeked round the door and spied him playing in a fort thingy with another baby :-) I came in, he saw me and continued playing! Did I have the right baby? I spoke to the ladies and they said he was absolutely fine today, spot on. He had 2 naps (on his 2 walks) and ate all his food. He only cried once (when he got stuck) and spent an hour playing with a little door on the fort. He sang/danced to Christmas songs and has ball pit / soft play fun. When we got him home he was still in a great mood and played more. He was knackered.

Thursday

Rose was off and took Jack to Portobello Swim Centre with Heather and Olivia. Jack was eating raisins and was sharing them with Olivia (baby friend) by putting them in her mouth :-) He also crawled over to a guy in a wheelchair (big wheels) and really liked them. However the dude in the chair was mentally handicapped as well as physically so went nuts when Jack touched his chair! Ooops! He then went swimming and had fun with a new strict swimming teacher!

In general he is standing a lot more (without realising it) and only when he does, does he fall over. He is taking a lot more steps in between objects so its only a matter of time me thinks before he is a fully fledged walker.

His old love (of wheels, as demonstrated by the wheelchair incident) is now complimented by his new love (doors). He goes in, closes, opens, goes out, closes, opens, etc. He really likes them and can now open all the doors in our house (well apart from the front door and the baby gates!).

Rose has some photos and no doubt some comments to add to my ramblings so watch this space Jackfans!

Here is this weeks information:

As your baby learns to pull himself upright, cruise round the furniture and get ready for walking, you may wonder if he needs shoes yet. No -- not until he walks independently and can easily navigate rough or uneven surfaces. Experts say going barefoot in the beginning helps him develop his arches, leg muscles, balance and co-ordination. Your baby will probably progress amazingly fast (usually in a matter of days or weeks) from first steps to toddling more confidently on his own. Then he'll be ready to be fitted for shoes and try walking outside.

And an interesting next section :-)

As your child's first year comes to a close, it can be a good time to think about yourself and your partner. Do you feel your relationship with your partner has been put under strain over the past year, or has it brought you closer together? Caring for a baby can wreak havoc on a relationship, especially during those intense early months. You may find yourselves bickering a lot or just not talking the way you used to. Don't despair -- remember that you all need time to adjust to being a family and your life as a family is just beginning. Now that your baby-turned-toddler is becoming less dependent on you, you can make a point of getting away to do adult things, just the two of you.

Very quick one - I have a few pictures to put up but I haven't got the time at the moment as I am way too tired!

Anyway - I got this from my friend and thought that it was very apt for Jack at the moment...

Toddler Property Rules

If I like it, it's mine.
If it's in my hand, it's mine.
If I can take it from you, it's mine.
If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
If I'm doing or building something, all the pieces are mine.
If it looks just like mine, it's mine.
If I think it's mine, it's mine.
